With young people becoming increasingly sedentary, childhood obesity is a growing problem in the United States today. Over the past 40 years, the rate of childhood obesity has more than tripled, from 5 percent in the late 1970s to 18.5 percent in 2016.
1. Kids Fit Foundation
This nonprofit organization was created to provide fitness programs for at-risk youth, offering summer camps, physical fitness activities, afterschool programming, and exercise and nutrition education.

Originally known as Harlem RBI, DREAM provides free sports-based programs and operates charter schools in New York.
3. Girls On The Run
This afterschool program inspires girls of all abilities to recognize their inner strength, culminating in a 5K run.

Good Sports' mission is to help all children acquire the lifelong benefits connected with physical activity by providing equipment, footwear, and clothing.
5. YMCA
In 2020, more than 553,000 children and teens participated in YMCA youth sports programs in the U.S.
6. Kaboom
Since its foundation 25 years ago, Kaboom has engaged over 1.5 million community members to build or improve over 17,000 play spaces used by more than 11.5 million children.
